ABOUT
Backwards Down the Path
Jacobdeloakland formerly known as Jacob Adams, is a MC and writer out of Oakland California. Born into a musically inclined family, Jacob had a lot of access to music at an early age. His Mother and Father encouraged Jacob to pursue his dreams from an early age. He started free styling, at first, to compete with his older brother Hwy Foe and watching him and other artists like him gain traction and cement themselves and their art, inspired Jacob to do the same.
Through middle and high school, Jacob would sharpen his blade against any and all competitors in the arena. Frequenting First Fridays in downtown Oakland, connected Jacob to fellow Bay Area Rising stars & Community efforts. These events also opened Jacob’s eyes to the stratifying pressures of Poverty and societal isms.
After moving to Ohio to pursue a degree in Sociology, Jacob decided to record music for the first time.
Starting off small, Jacob would meet his first producers Ma1ik Fye, Sax Lazurus & in college and Hoolian to make most of his first released music. Including songs like “I Feel Good” and “Biters(dedicated to Skooby Dee)”. Patience and Consistency afforded Jacob the opportunity to build a full studio and funk band, Booty Robins in his 4 years. He graduated in May of 2019 and moved back to Oakland, Ca.
Since then, Jacobdeloakland has released 3 full Eps spanning from Lo-fi Hip Hop to uptempo, funk rap projects. With inspiration from many artists from Dorothy Asbhy & Horace Silver to Big L & Del the Funky Homosapien, Jacob blends his energy and heart into his songs. His imaginative use of language casts the listener into the midst of his world and story. Right at the fulcrum where the tension of White American Colonial Oppression & the Precaritization of Black peoples is where Jacob sets his focus.
In his tape, ACONVOFROMLASTNIGHT, Jacobdeloakland spins in multiple conversations of salvation from the point of view of the angels guiding a young man through a traumatic episode. These guiding principles formed into a conversation with “self” that sprouted the seed that is Jacobdeloakland.
